Efforts to train land management staff as part of the Campaign for the Farmed Environment (CFE) have now reached 800 agronomists and farm advisers, with 120 meeting CFE experts face-to-face at special events around the country.

The insect “Psyllid” is set to be unleashed to help curb the spread of Japanese Knotweed in the UK. The plant is listed by the World Conservation Union as one of the world's 100 worst invasive species with a growth rate of one metre a month. It currently costs the UK over £150 million a year to control and clear the plant.This deadly plant also damages our natural environment by stopping other plants from growing, and destroying habitats for native species.

Groceries Ombudsman Bill on Second Reading PDF Print E-mail

The MP Albert Owen's Private Members’ Bill to establish an independent grocery market ombudsman has successfully negotiated its first Parliamentary stage. After a debate of almost four hours on Friday, the bill received a vote of 44 in favour with none voting against. This has now allowed the bill to proceed from its Second Reading to the next legislative stage, consideration in Committee.

A new annual event “CropWorld 2010” has been launched by Farmers Guardian aiming to bring the world’s leading arable experts to London later this year. The annual fixture will embrace all aspects of crop production and tackle a wide range of issues including global food security, climate change and water shortages.

Further calls of support for the ratification of Albert Owens’s Private Members’ Bill, establishing a grocery market ombudsman have been made by the National Farmers Union (NFU). The bill is due to come before the House of Commons for second reading tomorrow.
