A public hearing on animal welfare is due to take place on Thursday February 4th at the European Parliament in Brussels. Due to speak at the hearing are several MP’s, the EU Commission, leading bodies in the agriculture sector and the National Farmers Union (NFU) Deputy President Meurig Raymond.
Mr Raymond is due to present the Parliament with the UK farming community's animal health and welfare priorities and will call for further and more efficient monitoring of existing legislation across the EU. He will also seek the Parliaments assurances that any future animal welfare legislation is uniformly enforced across the EU.
"This is an excellent opportunity to have our voice heard in Europe on the vital issue of animal health and welfare. Nobody understands the importance of good animal health and welfare more than UK livestock farmers, who are extremely proud of the high standards under which our animals are farmed. Farmers recognise that good animal health and welfare standards are an absolute in generating a profitable farming business." NFU Deputy President Meurig Raymond. |
