A debate on genetically modified (GM) crops is due to be held at the royal society of chemistry on Wednesday 2nd December in central London. The debate has been jointly by the royal society of chemistry and the institute of food science and technology.

The debate on whether GM foods are a solution or a problem will be carried out by a distinguished panel representing a range of viewpoints, chaired by Alan Malcolm, former Chief Executive of the Institute of Biology. The speakers are Peter Melchett, Policy Director of the Soil Association, Professor James Dunwell, Professor of Plant Biotechnology at the University of Reading, Professor Erik Millstone, Professor in Science and Technology Policy at the University of Sussex and Monsanto UK's sustainability manager, Dr Colin Merritt.
