Caroline Spelman MP has been appointed Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs by Prime Minister, David Cameron. Mrs Spelman is Member of Parliament for Meriden.
The National Farmers Union (NFU) have expressed concerns about the negotiations between the EU Commission and the Mercosur trading bloc. The NFU believe that increasing levels of imported beef and poultry could have a large negative impact on the EU beef and poultry industries and consumer confidence.
The European Commission's trade directorate has announced its plan to resume bilateral trade negotiations with the Mercosur group of countries. The Mercosur group is a South American trade bloc comprising Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay and Venezuela.
