Following much public consultation Defra has granted approval to Leeds University to conduct a research trial of Genetically Modified (GM) potatoes. The research trial will examine how GM potatoes resist infection by potato cyst nematodes.
An independent review of Defra’s Science Advisory Council (SAC) has been announced. The review will assess if the SAC is delivering scientific advice effectively and efficiently, if it is meeting the needs of Defra, whether the SAC is appropriately skilled.
